Event description

Description

Get Out was a monster hit in 2017 making 255M off a 4.5M budget. Many people went to see it more than once to pick up all the subtle and less obvious references within the film. Director Jordan Peele stated there were multiple layers of meaning and hidden truths in every scene.

For those who want to find out the hidden truth, what was drama and what was based on the lived African-American experience, we present another black history movie breakdown (Avatar, X Men, Matrix, Them! Planet of the Apes, Superman and Zootopia) . Be prepared for interactive fun, learning, thrills and discovery. We will use clips from the film alongside quotes / interviews from the cast news items and book references

We will cover:

  • Secret societies real and imagined, alpha and omega
  • The horror movie as parable
  • Real medical experimentation on African-Americans
  • White liberal racism UK vs US
  • Becky, good hair and Black man's kryptonite
  • Real Get Out examples
  • Symbolism and metaphor: running, the deer, antlers, wigs, hats, the blind man, the brother and more
