About this event

Get Your Words Out: a 21 day programme for writers

Boost your writing practice with WriteClub - ideal for beginners and experienced writers alike.

25 minute sessions every weekday from 8-8:25am [BST]

Starts Tuesday 11th Jan 2022

Do you sometimes struggle to prioritise your creative practice? Do you have things you want to write, but never seem to find the time? Does your creativity need a bit of coaxing out to play? Have you been trying for too long to finish your novel?

If any of the above are true for you, then this series of morning calls could be just the thing to get you and your writing on track.

What's it all about?

You'll meet with a group of like-minded creators, artists and procrastinators for 25 minutes from 8:00am [BST] each weekday from 11th Jan for 21 days.

Led by writer and creativity coach, Alison Powell, you'll be encouraged to look at the bigger picture of your creative writing, to examine your blocks, to find out how to deal with your inner critic and discover ways to keep your creativity flowing.

Will there be writing prompts?

Each session will end with a writing prompt or focus that you can take into your day.

Do I need to have a project underway?

No. You could use these sessions to support a project you're already working on, but equally you can use them to simply get into the habit of regular writing. It could be that you're working on a novel, a series of poems, a playscript or a memoir. Equally, it could be that your goal is to write in your journal every day.

Will I have to meet a daily word count?

No. With support from Alison and the group, you'll set your own goals for the course. For some people, daydreaming might be vital to creative work, for others, getting to the laptop is the the thing that makes a difference. You'll decide what you need to do.

Who will be in the group?

Writers of all levels of experience - whether you're a total novice, or an experienced novelist, these sessions can offer you valuable support and accountability.

Will I get feedback on my writing?

This course is designed to keep you writing. If you want feedback on your work, speak to Alison about WriteClub's Write Your Novel and Your Story courses or ping an email to hellowriteclub@gmail.com to discuss other options.

What others have said:

"Get Your Words Out! is a brilliant course. It was great to meet other writers and learn some great writers tips and strategies. Al's energy and creativity is infectious so throughout the three weeks I really felt my confidence grow. I highly recommend this course." (K)

"As always, Al created a safe and inspiring space for group members to reflect on their own practice and support each other’s. The daily nature of it helped set up a new working routine." (Felicity)

"A great way to start the day if you want to write, knowing you are part of a world wide community of people with faces and feelings who are doing the same as you. Al provides a perfectly balanced structure and holds the group with empathy and panache. How else could you meet such an interesting bunch of people in the safety of your pyjamas."(Sara)

"I am thrilled to have attended Write Club ‘Get Your Words Out’, a brilliant motivating workshop that feels safe whilst gently inspiring confidence and discipline. My writing has definitely improved as a result. Definitely recommend. Big huge Thank you Al!" (Yvonne)

FAQ

Is it an actual club? Like, do I get a badge? Not really. Though there is a community of WriteClubbers who regularly come to workshops both online and in real life. WriteClub offers workshops to help you get words down on the page, to help you deal with procrastination and to get feedback on your work.

What if I haven't written anything before? Well, that's probably not true - we've all written stuff at some point. Basically we're here to create a space for you to get words out. It doesn't matter where you are with your writing. Perhaps you're half way through a second novel. Perhaps you haven't written more than a shopping list in years. Wherever you're at, we'll have a session to suit you.

I really want to work one-to-one rather than in a group. Can I do that? Sure. Pop us an email at hellowriteclub@gmail.com and we'll arrange a time to chat about our mentoring packages.

Who leads the sessions? Workshops are mostly led by WriteClubber-in-chief, Alison Powell. She's been running writing workshops forever (seriously, she even used to get her primary school friends writing stories...) and established WriteClub in 2016. She supports new and established writers and runs regular workshops on all aspects of the writing craft. She is an award winning writer, published in various anthologies and magazines and holds an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa.

She has years of experience as a secondary English & Drama teacher and is also a fully fledged INLPTA certified Master Practitioner of NLP and coaching. She is an active member of NAWE and a channel partner with Paper Nations.

She believes that everyone has the right to express themselves in writing and runs all her sessions with a positive approach and a genuine passion for helping people set their words free. Her love of poetry and story, along with her enthusiasm for helping people find the best in themselves are reflected in her lively, welcoming and open presentation style. She promises to do her very best to ensure you find the support you need to make your writing feel wonderful.
