Event description

The London Borough of Bexley will be holding a Healthy Start Re-Launch event on Friday 20th September at Bexley Civic Offices. The event will be an opportunity for a range of health & social care professionals, businesses and retailers, third sector partners and community representatives to learn about and contribute to improving the uptake of the Healthy Start scheme across Bexley.

The Healthy Start scheme provides vouchers for eligible families to purchase fruit, vegetables and milk to help kick start healthy eating habits. Currently in Bexley £150,000 a year is not claimed under the scheme, which means money not being used to support our most vulernable families and not going into the local economy.

The re-launch event will also mark the start of our commitment towards developing Bexley’s Good Food Retail Plan which aims to increase the quality of the local food offer.

Healthy Start provides vouchers for pregnant women and for eligible families with children under the age of four to purchase fresh or frozen fruit and vegetables and cow’s milk. We will be showcasing the work done to raise the visibility and accessibilty of the scheme across Bexley, with various fun activities and competitions.

The event will start promptly at 10am. Tea/coffee and light healthy refreshments will be provided.

Speakers will include Councillor Teresa O’Neill OBE, Leader of the Council, Bexley Healthwatch and Chair of the London Food Board.

Please note that photographs and footage will be taken throughout the event by students from London South East College. The London Borough of Bexley will own the copyright of the materials. These will be used by the Council for marketing and publicity in our Council publications, on the Council’s website and partner websites and in the media, social media and related presentations. Release forms will be available on the day for those under the age of 18. Please contact the event organiser if you have any concerns or if you wish to be exempt from this activity.

Please contact us at or when calling the main switch board please ask for Public Health.
