Event description

Description

Have you ever felt confused by the range of movements in Vinyasas and Sun Salutations and wondered if you’re doing them ‘right’ or ‘well’? Or perhaps you find your wrists and/or your shoulders suffering from the repetition of these movements?

Sun salutations and vinyasa movements are a crucial part of a typical flow yoga class and because they are repeated so frequently, the risk of injury is somewhat heightened. But this doesn’t mean that we have to suffer with pain, or to avoid these movements completely.

Given the fast pace that we typically move through these postures and the fact that teaching methods can vary a lot between different styles of yoga and teachers - it can be challenging to understand what we’re trying to achieve in each stage, and to ensure that when we’re moving through these postures we’re doing so in a way that best serves our body.

I have created this unique Masterclass to help you refine your experience of some of these movements, so that when you return to your regular class you’ll have greatly improved your understanding of the postures, and possess a new repertoire of variations and techniques to apply to your practice.

We will breakdown the usual suspects: Chaturanga Dandasana (4-Limbed Staff pose) and Urdhva Mukha Savasana (Upward Facing Dog pose), as well as some of the transitions around them. We’ll explore ways to build strength towards a comfortable number of repetitions, and I’ll introduce some alternative movements and posture choices, so you can be more creative and varied in your practice in the future!

Whether you’re new to a flowing style of yoga, or have more experience, this Masterclass will guide you through a more mindful and interesting vinyasa practice. It will emphasise when to listen to your body, and let go of your ego, without necessarily loosing that ‘strong’ element of the practice. Ultimately, through movement practice, exploration of different shapes and Q&A this Masterclass will help make vinyasa yoga safer and more enjoyable for you.

Sarah’s Masterclasses are a great opportunity to cover some aspects of yoga that are generally not covered, or explored in depth within a typical class. The 1.5 hour format allows time for exploration in practice, and also discussion and questions, so each persons learning journey can be supported. She runs Masterclasses on a different topic each month, so keep an eye on future events as well. If you have any questions on whether this Masterclass is right for you - don’t hesitate to get in touch with Sarah directly.
