Maybe one day, you too wake up to find your heart is part bog.
Life and death, water and earth - the bog ignores distinctions, including the boundary between humans and their environment.
In this friendly, generative workshop, Anna and Clare will inspire you with poetry and short stories from writers who “get into the bog”. Using simple but powerful writing exercises , we'll explore how the peatland, moors and marshes - their plants and creatures – can become an expression of our own stories; how creative language can immerse us in the rich sensory world of the bog; and how a fascination can become life-defining passion.
The proceeds of this workshop will support the publication of “The Book of Bogs: Stories of a Yorkshire Moor and other Peatlands”, co-edited by Clare Shaw and Anna Chilvers, and published by Little Toller in September 2025.
