Getting results without sacrificing understanding - (Yr 6)

For Year 6 teachers preparing for the KS2 SATs

For year 6 teachers, the countdown to May starts in September. With considerable time pressure, it is very tempting for us to neglect to ensure that our pupils have a deep understanding of the maths that they learn, and rather rely on teaching procedures and tricks; to do so restricts pupils’ reasoning and problem solving opportunities, and does not prepare them for maths learning in key stage 3 and beyond.

This full-day course equips year 6 teachers with the confidence and strategies to teach their pupils to develop a thorough understanding of mathematical concepts and ideas, while simultaneously ensuring that they are ready for Key Stage 2 assessment questions. During the day, mastery teaching structures and techniques are explored, tested and exemplified using assessment-style questions.
