Mosses and liverworts, collectively known as bryophytes are an ecologically important and fascinating group. This session will teach participants how to tell apart the main groups of bryophytes and identify a number of common species in the field using a hand lens.

This course would make an ideal follow on for participants who attended either of the 'Uncovering the Hidden World of Bryophytes' courses, but no prior knowledge is necessary. This course will take place at Watergate Park in Gateshead and is located near the A1. The site holds a variety of grassland, woodland and wetland habitats, making it an ideal place to see a range of common bryophyte species.

Location details: Watergate Forest Park Car Park, Gateshead, NE11 9RQ

Ryan is passionate about recording wildlife, especially Britain’s less well-known species. He has a particular interest and passion for bryophytes, bees, beetles and flowering plants. Ryan started recording bryophytes as a way to focus his winter walks but fell in love with their intricacy, beauty and importance.
