About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

BRAVA founder, Melissa Thom, will talk you through the key things to consider when starting out in voiceover, including trends, the industry, demos, key challenges, our training programme here at BRAVA — and much more.

Melissa will talk for around 45 minutes, followed by a 15‑minute Q&A, so please come armed with all your questions.

We’ll cover questions you might have like:

  • How important is it to have a unique voice in voice acting?
  • How do I create a compelling demo reel to showcase my talent?
  • Is formal training essential to becoming a successful voice actor?
  • How can I emotionally connect with a script to deliver a more authentic performance?
  • Can a background in singing, music, or acting enhance my voiceover skills?
  • What are some unexpected challenges you might encounter in a voice acting career?
  • Should I join a voice acting agency or go freelance?
  • How can I develop different accents and character voices?
  • What software is commonly used for voice recording and editing?
  • How is artificial intelligence (AI) affecting opportunities and competition in the voiceover industry. And what can I do to stand out?

Please note: specific questions may vary on the actual day

It’s a free event, but please register here with Eventbrite.

“I've always had an interest in acting as a whole and have always been tempted by seeing if VO would be a skill that I could explore or even have a good knack for would be for me. But I've never been able to find out where to go to look into it more. Until this came my way.” - Aaron . H.

"Thank you so much for this. Really helpful and insightful x" Stephanie

“It was great hearing the industry of Voice Over and Acting expanded upon in a digestible way as well as be encouraged to pursue the area.- Callum .F.

[What was most useful to you?] "The information about BRAVA and the attitude/vibe of Melissa." N. Kearns

"I think the session as a whole was a highlight for me. I've always had an interest in acting as a whole and have always been tempted by seeing if VO would be a skill that I could explore or even have a good knack for would be for me. But I've never been able to find out where to go to look into it more. Until this came my way." A. Hooper

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any experience to attend this webinar?

Not at all. This free session is designed for anyone curious about voice acting, whether you’re completely new or already exploring the industry.

Do I need a particular kind of voice to succeed in voice acting?

No. There’s no one “perfect” voice. The industry needs a wide variety of voices, and much of the craft lies in learning how to use yours effectively.

What equipment do I need to get started?

You don’t need a professional studio setup to begin exploring voiceover. We’ll touch on home recording basics during the talk and explain what’s really essential at the start.

Is voice acting something you can really make a career from?

It absolutely can be. But like any creative career, it takes skill, practice, and persistence. This webinar will give you a realistic picture of the industry and what it takes to succeed.

I feel nervous about performing in front of others — is that a problem?

Not at all. Many people feel this way at first, but confidence grows as you gain skills and experience.

What are the next steps after the free talk?

If you’d like to take things further, we’ll explain how our Foundation Course and Stage 1: Narration course works, and how to arrange a Discovery Call to discuss your goals in more detail.

Will artificial intelligence (AI) take over voice acting?

AI is already having an impact, but human creativity, emotion, and interpretation remain in demand. We’ll touch on how the industry is adapting and how you can stand out.
