About this event

This two hour workshop will be led by The Craft House’s creative writing tutor, Alyson Faye.*

Alyson will teach you techniques and tips to start your creative writing journey, whether that is poetry, flash fiction, short stories, in longer writing, or memoir. The emphasis is on finding your writing voice and having fun.

In the workshop we will use visual and audio prompts, a selection of found objects, and short writing exercises, including how to enrich our writing by utilising the Five Senses. We will talk about methods on how to find your fictional characters, tips on choosing a point of view, and the use of personal memories.

There will be an opportunity to read and share your work as well as work in pairs, and receive, if wished, some tutorial feedback in the session.

There will be takeaway print outs full of top tips and future pathways to help to keep you writing, also lists of sites and magazines you can reference and some discussion of basic editing pointers.

Price is £25 per person.

The Craft House was established in 2016 in Saltaire by April Chamberlain, who continues to manage the business. Having started in Saltaire, The Craft House is now run from new, larger, premises at 109-111 Main Street, Bingley. We have a lovely ground floor cafe and welcoming workshop spaces on the first floor (reached by stairs with two handrails). We offer a vibrant programme of art, craft and textile workshops and courses for adults, enabling you to develop existing skills as well as try new activities. Working closely with a team of talented artist/maker tutors, we provide expertly-run classes in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We cater for a range of skill levels, from first-time participants to people with existing skills (including other professional artists and makers looking to develop their techniques). Our emphasis is on encouraging creativity and enjoyment whilst passing on key skills. We also cater for private parties and events - please telephone us or call into the cafe to discuss. Please note that all our events are subject to us achieving minimum booking requirements, as we need to ensure they are commercially viable for our tutors - if we have to cancel an event, we will refund your ticket and give you as much notice as possible.
