Event description

Description

This 1.5 hour workshop will introduce you to Zotero, a free, user-friendly tool which allows you to manage bibliographic references and import citations into your library from webpages with a single click. It is easily searchable and comes with a free Word plugin that allows you to insert individual references and bibliographies into Word documents, automatically formatted in the bibliographic style of your choice. Developed by scholars for scholars, Zotero also enables you to share your citation libraries with other users, which is extremely useful for collaborative projects, and to access your references through a web interface when you are away from your own machine.

Participants who want to try out Zotero for themselves will need to bring their own laptops to the session, though those without laptops are still welcome to attend and observe. No prior technical knowledge is necessary, and both PCs and Macs are supported. You are asked to download Firefox prior to the session, and also to ensure your computer can connect to the university network so you can get online.

If you already use reference management software (eg. EndNote), you may still find it useful to know how to use Zotero, because of its utility with collaborative projects, and also because if you lose institutional access to EndNote (for example if you are a PG student who will eventually graduate), using Zotero will save you from paying the hefty licence fee.
