Attention STEM early career researchers: two interactive sessions to explore the pitfalls and challenges in communicating statistics from your research to non-specialists and the public.
Expert panellists from the worlds of journalism, research and mathematics will explore public misconceptions about statistics as well as offer examples of the best and worst statistical descriptions published in papers, press releases and public reports.
With Dr Rebecca Goldin, Director of STATS and Professor of Mathematics at George Mason University; Emilie Marcus, Editor-in-Chief of Cell; Trevor Butterworth, Executive Director for Sense About Science USA and former journalist; and Dr Christopher Labos, cardiologist at McGill University. Chaired by Tracey Brown, Director of Sense about Science.
