Overview
At this conference, two leading psychotherapists, trainers, and prolific authors, will demonstrate how they enable clients/service users to get to core pain and from there on to healthy adaptive emotions and quality of life.
Dr Dan Hughes will discuss and demonstrate using his model Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and Dr Margot Sunderland will discuss and demonstrate using the art therapies.
Both will include an abundance of case material including moving film footage of a) actual client sessions and b) different therapeutic practitioners discussing cases of how they enabled their client to get to core pain.
Core Pain: The Background
Studies on therapeutic change and on why therapy works when it works, show that in order for a therapeutic relationship to be effective, people must get to core pain underneath secondary symptomatic emotions (e.g. depression, anxiety, hopelessness, anger). Getting to core pain means naming and expressing the deepest most authentic feelings we have.
To quote “When you access core pain in a therapeutic relationship, a type of internal bell often rings and tells you. Yes, this is it. This is what I most truly feel. And with this, a sense of relief, release and peace of having arrived at the right place. And a core emotion always holds vital information for your life and the actions you need to take.” (Leslie Greenberg 2021, founder of emotion focused therapy).
Whilst this day focusses mainly on work with children, teenagers and parents. It also provides vital learning for people working with adults.
