Getting to Net Zero Using IESVE

This is a free training workshop that will show you how to build a quick energy model to explore high-performance design options: This interactive training session will show you how to build an energy model with the IES Virtual Environment's (VE) advanced modeling tools. We will use the VE to understand the energy impacts of solar, daylighting, and shading from surrounding buildings to advise on the form, fenestration, building envelope and energy systems. The earlier you can make an informed decision, the greater its impact on the building’s potential to perform well and achieve high-performance energy targets.
What will be covered in the IES session?
- Introduction to building simulation using common design software tools.
- Benefits to using building simulation in the early design process including energy, comfort, daylight, and HVAC sizing.
- Demonstration of how to quantify energy savings measures and effectively advocate for them on projects.
- Prepare site context using Open Street Map, create a building geometry, and customize the window to wall ratio (WWR) for each façade.
IES Speaker – Jean Carriere
Jean has an architectural and building science background with over 5 years of building modelling experience. He is an expert in the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for energy analysis. He is a board member of gbxml.org and on the technical advisory board for buildingSMART’s Canadian chapter. In his current role, he provides training, support and consulting to customers across North America.
Software Training License
Note: Trainees are required to bring a laptop to our session with the VE installed beforehand. We will provide your complimentary training license upon registration. Please read and accept the IES Training T&Cs before booking any training.
