Join us for a Business Networking Breakfast to launch the start of Global Enterprise Week (GEW) in Plymouth!
Devon Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Plymouth University and sponsored by the Faculty of Business are hosting this event to introduce students and some of the city's young entrepreneurs to members of the Devon Junior Chamber.
This event will start at 08:30am with a light breakfast and refreshments before moving into a few short presentations from Mark Beresford (Careers Consultant, Plymouth University) on activities available during GEW and Dr Marta Hawkins, the new director of the Futures Entrepreneurship Centre.
Dr Marta Hawkins - What’s out there today for a new entrepreneur? Challenges and opportunities of the current world of business.
Political conflicts and diminishing resources are one of the biggest challenges faced by entrepreneurs today. On the other hand, instantaneous global communication and the access to tremendous human capital and advanced technology have increased entrepreneurial opportunities. Navigating between the opposite factors needs confidence, while expanding on achievements available and driving them forward.
In this breakfast talk I will ponder the questions which derive from the contemporary business context underpinned by tensions:
- How to achieve the best economic results for my enterprise and secure environmental sustainability?
- How to produce more and waste less?
- How to expand my brand globally and protect local values?
Finally we will discuss together the need for creative and sustainable thinking in finding the answers to these questions.
Dr Marta Hawkins – the Director of the Futures Entrepreneurship Centre, Plymouth University, Faculty of Business. With an academic background in Philosophy and Critical Studies, Dr Hawkins has developed several for-profit and third sector enterprises, while consultanting for branding and advertising internationally. She is a creative practitioner specialising in documentary filmmaking and a researcher of Creative Industries.
The event, concluding at 10:00am will also provide you with an opportunity to meet budding entrepreneurs and networking with business professionals from across the region.
