What have others experienced at this venue?

Paranormal Activity

This venue has reported activity in all of the buildings on site. The of the apparition of a man wearing a white apron and children are said to be heard laughing in the shadows. With sudden temperature drops and an uncomfortable atmosphere and the feeling of being watched Blyth Battery is a spooky place in the dark hours.

A particular hot spot for activity is the 1940's room where the chair is said to rock of its own accord and cold spots and breezes are felt by unsuspecting visitors.

Pregnant woman are said to be targeted here and the spirits that frequent this venue have been known to move and throw objects.

 History

Blyth Battery is a coastal defence artillery battery, built in 1916 to defend the port of Blyth and the submarine base there during World War One. The Battery found itself at the heart of the efforts to defend the north east coast of Britain. Powerful defenses were needed to protect strategic targets from attack and invasion via the North Sea, and in 1916 work began on the Battery, a complex of concrete buildings housing and supporting twin 6 inch guns. The site comprises of two buildings a twin coast defence gun emplacement and a twin searchlight emplacement.

Recommissioned at the start of World War Two (1925), the Battery stood solidly in the sand dunes through two global conflicts, protecting both the port and submarine base. Between and after the Wars, the Battery's buildings found a new lease of life, as Blyth beach became busy with holiday makers and sightseers.

Blyth is the most intact and accessible coastal defense battery on the north east coast, with buildings and features of great rarity. Following an extensive restoration programme in 2009, the Battery is now open to visitors.
