Event description
Join us for a very special evening in the company of keynote speaker, Lady Hale

About this Event

It is our pleasure to invite you to our annual black-tie evening with this year's keynote speaker, Lady Hale, President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.

Details as follows:

Talk in the Royal Court (Court 3) – 5.30pm for a 6pm start

Drinks Reception and Dinner at the OGH – 7.15pm

Dress code - black-tie.

Sitting on the Privy Council, Lady Hale is very familiar with cases from the Bailiwick of Guernsey as well as authoring the constitutionally-critical Supreme Court judgment; R (on the application of Sir David Barclay and another) (Respondents) v Secretary of State for Justice and the Lord Chancellor and others (Appellants) and The Attorney General of Jersey and The States of Guernsey (Interveners) [2014] UKSC 54.

A true legal trailblazer, Lady Hale’s career has been glittered with "firsts" after becoming the UK's first female Lord of Appeal in Ordinary in 2004, then the first female Justice of the Supreme Court in 2009, before becoming the UK's first female top judge, President of the Supreme Court of the UK, on 7 October 2017.

Described by the Bar Council as being “at the forefront in the task of arguing for a properly diverse judiciary", Lady Hale was appointed President the same day Lady Justice Black was appointed to the Supreme Court and notably said "while I of course look forward to working alongside all my colleagues, it is a particular pleasure for me to be taking up the post at the same time as we welcome only the second ever woman to sit on the UK's top appeal court”.

2019 marks the centenary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919 which paved the way for women to become lawyers for the first time. Lady Hale has been heavily involved in the topical First 100 Years campaign, set up to chart the journey of women in law since 1919 and to ensure a strong and equal future for all women in law.

This will be a truly unique evening and is one not to be missed. Make sure to book your place before COB 15 October 2019 to enjoy our early bird ticket price. Please note that tickets may sell-out before this date.

We look forward to seeing you there.
