Event description

Description

The historic landscape of Gilwell Park has transformed over centuries from a hunting lodge to a farm, a regency pleasure palace to a family estate and most surprisingly into the spiritual home of the Scout Movement.

Come and discover this hidden gem of rural London. Nestled on the edge of the historic Royal Forest of Epping Gilwell is full of fascinating stories from society scandal to Scouting escapades.

Spend the day exploring the site; take a guided tour with our Heritage Team, join in with 1908 style outdoor activities including backwoods cooking and shelter-building inspired by Robert Baden-Powell’s best-selling book Scouting For Boys and discover over 100 years of Scouting stories with creative activities inspired by our Heritage Collection.

For visitors wanting to lead a self-guided visit our Gilwell Heritage Trail will guide you around the Park’s historic landscape. Complete all the challenges in our children’s trail to get a “Gilwell Heritage Expert” sticker.
