Event description

Description

In the lead up to our exciting plans for our 150th anniversary in 2018, the Burns Club of London is taking a “slight pilgrimage to the classic scenes of this country” with a geographical tour of Scotland in songs and poetry for our latest initiative 'Cool Burns'. We will introduce a plethora of talent, starting from Ayrshire with 'Gin a body, meet a body', the first of our Scottish gin tasting evenings with poetry, and music by Jamie McGeechan on Monday 2nd October at The Caledonian Club, with gin kindly supplied by The Botanist, the first and only Islay dry gin.

Jamie is an award-winning singer and songwriter who has performed on both sides of the Atlantic with Eddi Reader, Damien Rice and Joan Armatrading, and is a regular performer at New York Tartan Week as Ambassador for World Peace Tartan. He made history by being the first person to record inside Burns Cottage, Alloway, and is also an Ambassador for the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum.

Fresh from Edinburgh Festival we have actor and writer Alain English to recite for us, as well as our Past President, the inimitable Jock Meikle.

And as if all this isn't good enough, you get to eat the most delicious haggis ever. Supper of haggis and neaps is included in the price, and parking is available, free of charge in Belgrave Square after 6.30pm.
