About this event
Supporting the UK Langa Township Pre-School, the 'Gin and Jazz Dinner'event will be in Berkhamsted's iconic restaurant 'The Gatsby' and features leading UK jazz musicians. Al Nicholls, leading UK jazz saxophonist, will be joined by Paul Eldridge on keyboard, Paul Moylan on double bass and Rod Brown on drums. These highly talented musicians are well known on the national jazz circuit. The brilliant Al Nicholls Quartet was very well received at its first LTPT event at The Gatsby in 2019 and we were asked to bring them back again.
This event is organised to support the 10-year old UK Langa Township Pre-School Trust (LTPT). Currently helping 500 children and their staff, LTPT has spent £225,000 on food, clothing, new buildings and maintenance, the equipment of offices and kitchens, security fencing, supplies and administration. Funds are raised through donations and profits from events such as this. The Trust is run by UK volunteers who charge neither fees nor expenses, so 97% of the available money goes to the pre-schools and the children.
Gordon Gaddes, having retired after a career in education, administration and business, is involved in charity work and the Church and writing and research. The Founder Trustee he has been Chairman of LTPT since it started 10 year ago. Usually visiting Cape Town annually his book,'Cape Town Stories: Apartheid - its effects and its ending', published in May 2016, tries to answer the many questions put to him by relatives and friends on return to the UK. The Gatsby Dinner : Starter red wine poached pear, Roquefort & endive(v), or Tiger prawn, avocado & mango cocktail, rose harissa dressing. Main course Thai green vegetable curry & basmati rice (v), or Roast supreme of chicken, dauphinoise potato, buttered greens, red wine sauce. Dessert Strawberry bavarois, Champagne jelly & sorbet, or Coconut chia seed pudding, blackcurrent sorbet (v)
