Gin Tasting: Hybrid Spirits! When Gin met Wine
Event Information
Description
From Bacchus to the Benedictine Monks to wine-meets-gin cocktails (there was even one served at the Savoy's famous American Bar!) - this tasting is a look at the closely interweaved history of wine and gin.
Gin Foundry's Olivier Ward will reveal just how greatly the world of wine has played a role in shaping the history of gin, bringing you right up to the modern-day incarnation of this relationship which has seen a wave of creative, forward thinking gins flourish across the world.
During the evening, guests will be guided through the history, invited to taste an interpretation of one of the earliest gin recipes made using wine and explore five other gins that take their cues from grapes and wine making methodology.
We'll finish with a cocktail that combines these two areas of booze - one you can easily replicate at home (whilst showing off your new found knowledge!).
The tasting lasts 90 minutes. Tickets include a French 75 on arrival, 9 samples of gin and an iconic hybrid gin and wine cocktail that has its origins in the 1920's Savoy Cocktail Book!
