Description

Computing and technology is at the heart of everything we do, from browsing the apps on your phone, playing on your favourite computer games or writing your next essay for school.

Looking back in history women have played a fundamental role in the development of computing,

Did you know, Ada Lovelace paved the way as the first computer programmer? Since then women have continued to excel the field of technology.

To celebrate the impact women have made on the computing sector we are hosting a ‘Girls in Computing Taster Session’*.

Our taster session* offers the opportunity to take part in interactive workshops delivered by Walsall College tutors who are our industry experts in their subject areas.

You will not only have the chance to try out some of the subject areas available, but also the opportunity to hear from award winning entrepreneur Fiona Hudson-Kelly, CEO of Smart Apprentices.

During this taster session, you will have the opportunity to take part in two 45-minute sessions in the following areas:

  • Web design
  • Smart homes with Arduino
  • Learn to code with Raspberry Pi
  • Build a network using packet tracer
  • Ethical hacking

This taster session is FREE to attend and booking is essential, as spaces are limited!

The range of careers available working with computers has never been more varied! While you are waiting to join us at this taster session you can discover the variety of careers available in Computing by reading our blog – ‘Cracking the code to a career in IT.’

*This taster session is open to females studying in Years 10 or 11 only
