Sustainable Transport: Build A Railway System
Railways are often positioned as one of the most sustainable forms of transport. In this workshop the girls will work as a team to design and build a complete railway system! From mechanical train and track design, to electrical design, driverless trains, signalling and scheduling, the girls will take on different roles in our rail "company", aiming to have a fully functioning model railway built from scratch in 2 days! They will use techniques such as coding, electronics, 3D printing and laser cutting to realise this project.
Note: This workshop involves the use of cutting tools. Students will only be permitted to use hand tools whilst being supervised on a one-to-one basis. Power tools will only be used by the mentors. Gloves and safety goggles will be provided.
Eligible age: 11 to 14
Programme #2: - Age: 11 to 14
Design & Make An Eco-friendly Pavilion Loaded With Tech
Designing sustainable spaces is key to protecting the environment, conserving resources, and encouraging healthier living. In this bootcamp, the girls will create an eco-friendly pavilion with exciting electronic features. They’ll explore the benefits of various construction materials and learn about sustainable building techniques. Using computer-aided design (CAD) software and cardboard models, they’ll develop pavilion ideas, which they’ll bring to life using a laser cutter. Their projects will be enhanced with code & electronics such as sensors, motors, LEDs, and microcontrollers. Along the way, they'll safely use tools and workshop equipment, and gain hands-on experience in physical computing, soldering, 3D printing, and laser cutting.
Eligible age: 11 to 14
