This is a fantastic opportunity to engage with our hands-on workshops in Engineering, Design, Robotics, 3D printing, Laser Cutting, Making and Coding!

Tickets are limited to 1 maximum per family / Please register the participant only, parents do not need to register. This event is for girls aged 12 to 14.

As this is a small collaborative event it may be necessary to move your daughter to a different workshop to balance out the number of participants in each workshop.

THE HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS

Programme #1: A Recycling Plant! (Age 12 to 14)

In this workshop , you’ll build, code and run a mini recycling plant that can separate waste using a conveyor belt, fans, magnets and shakers. You’ll get to build it, wire it up and write the code, before racing the others to see who can separate their waste the fastest!

Programme #2: Exploring Computer-Aided Design, Laser Cutters & Robotics (Age 12 to 14)

Explore the potential of CAD/CAM by designing and manufacturing a chassis for a wheeled robot, and experience it being precision made using a laser cutter! Then learn how to get it moving by mounting and wiring up a range of electronic components, including motors, driver board & microcontroller. Once fully assembled you’ll programme your robot to bring it to life!

Programme #3: Mechanical automata (Age 12 to 14)
Combine your creative and engineering skills to design a mechanical automaton. Use specialist engineering software to add smooth and interesting movements. Add motors and a little code to bring your creation to life.

Note for all workshops: Attendees will only be permitted to undertake any drilling & soldering after a health & safety induction and under close one-to-one supervision from an experienced practitioner. Aprons, hair bands, and safety goggles will be provided.

TALK

Jenny Pinta

Jenny will deliver a talk about our QEPrize Create the Trophy competition.

Every year, the QEPrize trophy is designed through this competition, which allows young people aged 14–24 to showcase their design skills using cutting-edge 3D design technology. The winner receives a high-end laptop, a model of their trophy, and the chance to see their 3D-printed design presented to the winners of the QEPrize in London. Additionally, the winning trophy will be displayed in our Engineers Gallery at the Science Museum, which highlights engineering innovations through the lens of the QEPrize.

Organised by

Girls into Coding(GIC) is a not-for-profit organisation, a Community Interest Company (CIC). We are a mother(Helene) and daughter(Avye, 16) run social enterprise. GIC provides learning opportunities for girls between the ages of 10 and 14. We’ve created workshops and education events to immerse young people in a range of STEM activities. STEM is an educational programme developed to prepare young students for further education in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM also aims to encourage inquiring minds, logical reasoning, and collaboration skills.

We are driven to create opportunities to engage girls to consider STEM education and careers through hands-on workshops and events.
