GIRLS! THE TECH COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU! THIS EVENT IS ORGANISED ESPECIALLY FOR YOU! COME AND JOIN US AND GET INVOLVED!
I am delighted to invite you to our IN-PERSON "Girls Into Coding " event! It's a free event. Choose 1 of 3 exciting workshops. There will also be lightning talks to inspire & encourage girls aged 11 -14 to get involved in tech. Each participant can only book one workshop because they will run simultaneously.
You will be able to explore coding activities, robotics, engineering, electronics, and physical computing using the RaspberryPico, the Micro: bit. This is a fantastic opportunity to use Python, Micropython (text-based language), and Microsoft Makecode while getting some hands-on making time.
IF YOU BOOK MORE THAN ONE TICKET PER PARTICIPANT, YOUR BOOKING WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED.
THE 3 WORKSHOPS BELOW WILL RUN SIMULTANEOUSLY - THEREFORE EACH PARTICIPANT SHOULD ONLY BOOK ONE WORKSHOP.
PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER YOUR DAUGHTER FOR A WORKSHOP SHE HAS ALREADY PARTICIPATED IN OR YOUR TICKET WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELED.
WORKSHOPS:
Workshop #1 (Age 11 to 14): Automated harvesting machine
The girls must be between 11 and 14 to attend this workshop. In this workshop, you will build an automatic harvesting machine! During the workshop, you will "grow" some electronic fruit. You will then build and code a machine that can detect when the fruit is ripe and automatically harvest it. The activity uses a Raspberry Pi Pico, and a variety of motors, sensors, and engineered parts. Coding will be in Python.
The girls must be between 11 and 14 to attend this workshop
Workshop #2: Automated Refill Machine: Tech for Tomorrow's Circular Economy (Age 11-14)
This workshop will get you thinking about the circular economy by exploring how technology can be used to reduce waste & the reliance on single-use plastic.
You will link everyday electronic components with a microcontroller - apply some coding principles to build a scaled-down automated refill station for household products - something that may influence how we buy more of our products in the future.
The girls must be between 11 and 14 to attend this workshop
Workshop #3: A Renewable Energy Experience with the Wind Turbine (Age 12 to 14)
Dive into the exciting world of renewable energy by assembling your own wind turbine, measuring its speed with a microcontroller and computer, and enhancing it with 3D-printed blades! This activity blends programming with hands-on engineering, offering a thrilling challenge for all skill levels. Experiment with blade designs and positions to discover how they influence turbine speed and embrace the fun of innovation and discovery!
The girls must be between 12 and 14 to attend this workshop
LIGHTNING TALKS:
Tahirah Nasrin
