About this event

Health • Mental health

Autism diagnoses have historically been male-centric, often overlooking how autism presents in girls. This means many autistic girls are on avarage diagnosed much later than boys, often not until secondry school, as their traits are often internalised and less visible.

Autistic Girls Network will deliver this session exploring the internal presentations of autism in girls, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Emotional regulation difficulties
  • Sensory sensitivities
  • Autistic masking – the effort to hide autistic traits to fit in socially
  • Autistic burnout – the exhaustion from prolonged masking and unmet needs
  • How to spot the signs in girls and young women that are often missed

There will be also be Q&A session for parents.

Autisitc Girls Network is a registered charity dedicated to supporting autisic girls and women. They were founded to address gender bias in autism diagnosis and campaign for better recognition, unerstanding and support for autisitc girls and women.
