Giving What We Can and Blackwell's presents: The Big Match
Mon 6 March 2017, 19:00 – 21:00 GMT
Is donating money to charity a truly altruistic act, or simply a guilt-relieving reaction to emotionally provocative campaigns? Join us on the 6th of March at Blackwell's for a thought-provoking panel discussion entitled 'Charitable Giving: Selfish or Selfless?', hosted by Giving What We Can: Oxford in collaboration with the Oxford Guild.
Panel members Mark Goldring (CEO of Oxfam), Dr. Anke Hoeffler, Lucius Caviola, and Jim Everett (PhD students at the University of Oxford) will approach this thorny question from the angles of economics, philosophy, and psychology. The event will challenge listeners to re-evaluate the crucial - yet sometimes blurred - discrepancies between altruism and egoism in charitable giving.
This event will be held in the Norrington Room.
