Glaciology and Geology walk
Event Information
About this event
It's hard to imagine how thick the ice would have been over Cadair Idris, and how it would move.
Andy Schlereth explains the shapes, textures and movements that he can 'see' in a way that you can identify them for yourself in your own walks. Andy is an expert in communicating the features that he's seeing in an understandable and accessible way.
Have a read about what sort of things Andy has covered on a previous walk here - https://www.no-mad.org/post/cadair-idris-glacial-walk
Once you can identify the type of rock, and features such as pillow lava and erratic rocks, not only will the view be an exciting part of your walk, but what you're walking on will come to life as well.
This workshop has been recognised as CPD for members of the Mountain Training Association. As it is a day, it would count for 1 point.
Feedback from the May 2021 walk
What an amazing day out, we learnt so much from Andy, he is so knowledgeable, yet managed to pitch things at a level that beginners like us could understand.
The course has added a new dimension to our days out in the mountains and left us motivated with a thirst to know more.
We had a full day with Andy and he was so willing to share his knowledge of the mountains and mountaineering,
as well as the amazing topic of the day 'Glaciology and Geology'.
He used some excellent graphic illustrations to help us digest this vast topic.
We would certainly recommend this day out to anyone that really wants to see what your looking at when your out and about on the mountains.
As always Big Thanks to 'No Mad Adventures' who set up these great days out for us, with top class instructors who never cease to inspire us, in such a beautiful part of the world too ... just a perfect day out!
Thank you
