About this event

This training is for service providers in Glasgow such as social work, health workers, housing, third sector organisations, community workers and support workers. It will delivered online - a link will be sent out nearer the time. Please enter your work email when registering. If you can no longer attend the event, please cancel your order to open the space for another attendee. We aim to hold this training on the last Monday of every month.

Glasgow East Women's Aid is based in the North East of Glasgow. We support women and children affected by domestic abuse in this area. Our services include:

  • Crisis Drop-In
  • Children and Young People
  • Support and Advocacy
  • Counselling
  • Family Development
  • Refuge
  • Survivor, Trauma, Abuse and Addictions Recovery

The Scottish Government reported that in 2019-2020, the police recorded 62,6907 incidents of domestic abuse, up 4% from the previous year. This is only for recorded incidents - many go unreported.

Pre-COVID-19, local Women's Aids and schools provided a safe space for women and children away from the abuser. COVID-19 has exacerbated levels of domestic abuse and not caused it. With lockdown restrictions and many people working from home, this has meant women and children are trapped in the home with the abuser. Many services, including Glasgow East Women's Aid have adapted to the situation and continue to provide support remotely. It is vital that service providers work together and receive appropriate training and practical steps to support women and children living in this abusive environment, which this training will offer.

Glasgow East Women's Aid aim to increase societal understanding of gender-based violence to reduce violence and abuse experienced by women and children. We also provide training around early intervention to early learning practitioners and can offer other gender-based violence training. We are interested in partnership working too - if you are interested in learning more, please email
