Event description

Description

SPAB Scotland is organising a visit to the spectacular Britannia Panopticon Music Hall and the
'cute' West Boathouse, before heading to Glasgow’s Christmas Market.

Built in 1857, the Britannia Panopticon, on Trongate, "is an exceptionally rare survival of a music
hall and ... the earliest and sole surviving example of its type in Scotland" –possibly even the
earliest in Britain– as the listing description for this heritage-designated building (Category A)
notes. The West Boathouse, in Glasgow Green, dates from 1905 and is now Category B listed. The
boathouse is a "by far the largest" of this "rare building type in Scotland". For both buildings,
conservation works are under preparation, and we will learn more from the professionals involved
about their challenges and concepts when planning the works. After the building visits, we will head
to the Christmas Market to celebrate (a day early) the start of the Advent season.

Tickets cost 7 £ / 5 £ concessions for students and unwaged.
