Event description

Description

Glass is emotional, sensitive and wild. It has its own rules. You break them, you break the glass. You follow them, the glass will follow you, your thoughts, your feelings, virtually effortlessly. Melting glass is a process that demands your full attention and dedication.

I love to share my knowledge and get involved with others. You don’t have to be a glass artist. There is more art in every creating process than can be written down.

I am offering glass making workshops at different skill levels.

The basic workshop for two people is ideal as a taster session for friends or couples who want to experience the magic of melting glass. I also offer an advanced session to teach participants the process of creating a coloured glass marble or pendant. Please contact me for more information.

Glass making involves working with open fire and sharp edges. The process demands a level of self-control.

The risk of burns and cuts lays with the participants. I am fully trained at first aid and will give a thorough health and safety instruction at the beginning of each course. Tools, safety goggles, protective clothing, basic materials, cups of tea and two bench burner workstations will be provided. I will guarantee the safety of the workspace.

The taster course is structured in these elements:

  • Welcome
  • Health and Safety instruction
  • Learning to cut and handle a glass rod / tube
  • Learning to create a button (maria) out of glass rod
  • Learning to blow a small glass bubble
  • Transform small glass bubble into a face by adding coloured glass dots for facial features
  • Short break
  • Learn more forming skills and explore shaoing glass to your imagination for the last hour

Each learner can pick up their work and a certificate within seven days of the end of the workshop. Glass has to be baked to be made stable after forming it. It involves resting in a kiln for several hours. For an extra charge, posting of the items can be arranged.

The workshop is based in South Liverpool on the Weaver Industrial Estate in Garston. There is parking for participants outside the building. It is easiest to reach it by car or taxi. The next train station is Liverpool South Parkway.
