Glencoe Hill Walking Weekend, Scottish Women’s Walking Group
Event Information
About this Event
Glencoe is one of Scotland’s most popular natural landmarks but the terrain is steep and rugged. Let Girls on Hills show you two accessible walks that explore deep into the heart of these hills. Together we’ll climb the Munro Buachaille Etive Beag (two summit options) on the Saturday, and then ascend into the Lost Valley of Glencoe on the Sunday.
The Saturday route is a 6-8km long, with 600-700m ascent over the day. The Sunday is a shorter (half-day) hike of 5-6km and 150-200m climb, giving you plenty of time for taking in the secenery (and coffee shops!) before getting away Sunday afternoon.
We will facilitate a group shuttle/lift share to the start in Glen Coe to ease pressure on the popular viewpoint carpark.
Please come well prepared for any and all weathers, and a expect a full day of mountain walking on the Saturday. This means you will need the following essentials:
A packed lunch and plenty of snacks.
Water bottle (and perhaps a thermos flask if it is cold)
Waterproof jacket/shell and waterproof trousers, hat and gloves.
Head torch
Warm mid-layer AND a packable insulation jacket (it quickly gets cold when you stop). Please keep your spare layers dry using a dry bag or equivalent.
Suitable footwear such as trail shoes with good grip or walking boots.
We would also recommend taking a smart phone, map and compass. Our guides will carry emergency equipment for the group such as a first aid kit and group shelter.
Please note, when you meet your guide, there will be a group discussion about the itinerary based on the weather. It is possible that the guide will need to modify the route while out on the hill depending on conditions.
If you have any questions, please get in touch anytime.
