About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Hiking

The mountains of Scotland are a breath-taking sight when covered with snow but they can also be intimidating. If you've been on a winter skills course before (from Girls on Hills or another provider) or if you already have winter skills experience but are feeling rusty, then this is the weekend for you!

Brush-up your prior knowledge and put new skills into practice in a safe and supportive setting. The course will involve two days of guided winter hillwalking (ratio 1:6) with one of our local Winter Mountain Leaders. We will climb some iconic mountains in spectacular Glencoe and enjoy two days journeying in the winter mountains.

Spend the evenings relaxing together by the fire, sharing a well-earned drink and tales of the day! There is the option of booking including accommodation (Friday and Saturday nights) at Roam West, Inchree.

The exact routes/summits will depend on prevailing conditions but will be in the Glencoe area. Uplift is not included, so a reasonable level of hill fitness will required to get the most out of the day (but don't worry, we'll take a sociable pace suitable for varying levels of confidence/experience)! A full equipment list will be provided to all ladies booking with us.

Kit hire is not included but axe and crampons can be hired on-site at Roam West for £10/day. If you need to hire winter boots, please contact Scottish Mountain Hire in Fort William or Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports Fort William (please arrange for a Friday evening collection). We will meet at Roam West in Inchree, nr Glencoe on Saturday morning. Roam West will the the location of our meet-n-greet and debrief with tea and cake once off the hill!

Our goal is to empower women with the skills and confidence necessary to take their next step and experience the unparalleled beauty of the Scottish Highlands in winter.

WEATHER AND SNOW CONDITIONS

Scottish winter is notoriously fickle and unfortunately we cannot guarantee good snow and wintery conditions at any point during the winter season. When you book with Girls on Hills, you can feel assured that we will give you the best possible course under the given conditions - but we cannot be held responsible for the variable snow cover! As local guides, we do however know all the best places to learn and practice winter skills in all weathers/conditions, whether that's a howling gale or balmy sunshine with little snow.

Every year we go the extra mile to give our winter course attendees the best possible learning experience in the face of unpredictable and changing seasons, which are increasingly being impacted by climate change. We'll head out and have a great time in the winter mountains, whatever that looks like on the day.

Girls on Hills reserve the right to modify the course itinerary to keep clients safe and to make the best of the winter conditions are available. Glencoe in Winter courses will only be cancelled if mountain weather/conditions are deemed unsafe to continue. You can see our cancellation policy and full T&Cs here.

VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION

Our accommodation partner, Roam West is providing our course attendees with a discounted accommodation package on the Friday and Saturday nights. This includes a two-night stay in comfortable and well-appointed self-catering accommodation, with facilities on site. Also included in the cost of your ticket is a two-course meal in the cosy Roam West bar/restaurant. You can also expect some brilliant evening speakers in the bar to fascinate and enthuse you! Join us, not only for fabulous mountains, but also for a sociable evening with likeminded women - aka future hill-walking buddies!

We pride ourselves on being 'approachable and relatable', so please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any concerns.

We look forward to breaking-trail with you this winter!
