This Global Business Innovation Programme, organised by Innovate UK and delivered by the Enterprise Europe Network, consists of a preparation phase, a 5-day virtual innovation experience of the Singaporean business landscape, including exhibiting at Singapore Week of Innovation & Technology (SWITCH), Asia’s leading technology, innovation and enterprise festival, a post-visit exploitation workshop and follow-up support of approx. 6 months from an EEN adviser, helping your business maximise the opportunities identified, including developing innovation projects with partners in the region.


This Programme is particularly relevant to businesses applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) in areas such as:

• Inspection of infrastructure and defects in manufacturing

• Logistics management

• Improvement to retails sales and operations

• Dynamic pricing

• Robotics

• Security

Within 5G, there is an interest in applications that could benefit from higher speed and low latency connectivity such as Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT). Smart meter solutions able to connect via NB-IoT and related areas will also be of interest.


Singapore is frequently used as a gateway to Asia due to its high GDP per capita, healthcare, transport, infrastructure quality and technology adoption, plus an attractive tax system, a familiar legal framework, and the ease of doing business in English.


Successful applicants will benefit from a structured programme of support to prepare for participation in the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) and TechInnovation, and a long term commitment to the region, initiating and building research, technology and innovation partnerships to develop ongoing commercial project ideas for the market.

• Better understand the challenges and opportunities of doing business in Singapore

• Find potential innovation collaborators and partners and develop your network in the UK and globally

• Improve your company value proposition to international partners and investors

The Global Business Innovation Programme brings together cohorts of up to 15 innovative UK SMEs looking to grow and scale globally. Each Programme focuses on a specific country and technology or sector area and enables the businesses to build collaborations and partnerships and explore innovation opportunities.

The Programme is structured around three main phases and each business will have a designated Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) account manager and advisor to support them for the duration of the Programme, including developing an action plan to capitalise on the opportunities identified. The three main phases of the Programme are:

Getting ready for the market: Pre-visit briefing workshop to build knowledge and understanding of the market and potential opportunities, including how to do business, cultural aspects, how to protect your IP and training on how to improve your pitch and articulate your value proposition.

Virtually visiting the market: Explore the innovation opportunities first-hand through meeting with key companies and research organisations and potential collaborators and partners through pre-arranged meetings and organised matchmaking.

Exploiting the opportunity: An exploitation workshop and one-to-one support from a specialist EEN Innovation and Internationalisation advisor to follow up and take advantage of the opportunities identified.


7-11th Dec 2020 - During Singapore Week of Innovation & Technology (SWITCH) you will have the opportunity to participate in a series of events to:

• Seek collaborations and discover technologies through an open innovation platform

• Exhibit at TechInnovation 2020 / SWITCH, and pitch technologies for commercialisation or co-development to technology seekers

• Learn from thought leaders and be inspired by successful enterprises in their innovation journeys

• Connect with potential collaborators through pre-matched 1-2-1 business meetings

• 10:00 - 12:00 (GMT +8) - Opening & Plenary ‘Open Innovation in Uncertain Times’ Talks by thought leaders followed by panel discussion

• 12:00 - 14:00 (GMT +8) - Crowdsourcing for Corporates, Sharing of Challenge Statements by Corporates seeking solutions

• 14:00 - 16:00 (GMT +8) - Crowdpitching for Exhibitors, Digital Economy & Urban Solutions & Sustainability

• 16:00 - 18:00 (GMT +8) - Crowdpitching by selected UK companies, Special segment on pitching of tech offers co-hosted with Innovate UK

• 1-2-1 meetings (according to mutual availability)


To participate in this programme your business must be an SME and established in the UK. An individual senior person from the business will be expected to participate in all relevant aspects of the Programme.


Innovate UK and the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) will organise and fund the cost of virtual event tickets and supporting training. On acceptance to the programme, a commitment fee of £250 +VAT will be obtained from each successful company which will be returned after their involvement in the Programme activity. Non-attendance of any relevant part of the Programme after formal acceptance may result in forfeiting some or all of the fee. You will be sent a link to pay your deposit in order to confirm your place once you have been formally accepted on the programme.


There is a competitive process to participate in the Programme following an evaluation process, in which only the best applicants will be successful. To apply, please register your interest via Eventbrite. Once you have expressed an interest, you will be sent a link to the online application form by one of our team. This must be completed and submitted by midnight, 01st November 2020. Please note: expressing interest/making an application does not secure your place.
