Why become a charity trustee and how to find the charity for you

A wonderful way to serve society is to support good governance in charities and voluntary organisations.  This workshop session is for young professionals who are aspiring to be a trustee and are looking for their first trustee appointment.  It will explore how being a trustee can be great for personal development by growing your skills and networks as well as being rewarding because you will be supporting society or individuals in need.  In the workshop you will find out more about the role of a charity trustee and the sorts of skills charities are looking for on their trustee boards. We will also share some tips on how to go about finding the right trustee appointment for you.

Dr Diana Garnham (War Studies, 1979)

Dr Garnham is Chair of the King's Alumni Advisory Group (London) and former Chief Executive of the Science Council. She has a wealth of experience in leadership positions including her roles as Chief Executive of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) and Chair of the Department for Business Innovation and Skills' Expert Group on science for careers. She has been involved in a wide range of voluntary organisations over the past 30 years including serving as a trustee for Sense about Science, the Benevolent Society of Blues and the International Spinal Research Trust.
