About this event

    The Being Luminary Global Leaders Programme is an 8-session training programme designed specifically for school DEI leaders. This comprehensive programme is being delivered exclusively for colleagues in UK schools and British International schools in Europe. It aims to equip leaders in these regions with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to ensure equity inclusion, belonging, and the development of a DEI strategic plan.

    By addressing key areas such as gender equity, disability, religion, pregnancy, maternity, and race, this programme provides leaders with a nuanced understanding of diversity within a global educational framework.


    Programme Outline:

    Introductory Session: Orientation

    In this session, we will introduce you to the key tools used within the Being Luminary Programmes. You will gain insights into our approach and understand how these tools can support your journey as a DEI leader.

    Session One: Intersectionality and Systems of Privilege

    Explore the concept of intersectionality and its impact on individuals' experiences in the workplace and society. Analyse systems of privilege and oppression through case studies and interactive exercises. We'll focus on religion and belief as a protected characteristic.

    Session Two: Critical Allyship and Social Responsibility

    Move beyond surface-level support to critical allyship that challenges systemic inequalities. Discuss individual and organisational responsibilities in promoting social justice. With an emphasis on race, we'll delve into anti-black racism and its particular relevance in school settings.

    Session Three: Organisational Culture and Structural Inclusion

    Examine the role of organisational culture in fostering inclusivity or perpetuating exclusion. Discuss how policies, practices, and norms can support diversity and inclusion. This session will focus on gender equity, pregnancy, and maternity.

    Session Four: Ethical Responses to Discrimination and Microaggressions

    Dive deep into the ethics of responding to discrimination, bias, and microaggressions within your organisation. Understand the psychological impact of microaggressions and create a supportive environment where individuals feel empowered to speak out. We'll address the unique experiences of support staff versus teaching staff and the various power dynamics in our school communities.

    Session Five: Equity, Access, and Opportunity

    Focus on creating equitable access to opportunities for all. Identify institutional barriers to access and explore strategies for dismantling them. Through the lens of disability, we'll ground our work in 3 concrete models of disability.

    Closing Session: Co-working Strategic Planning

    Anchor your learning by sharing your strategic planning tools, such as the Being Luminary Curriculum Review and DEI Maturity Audit. Foster community in your locality by exploring potential joint ventures with other participants.

    Objectives:

    • To equip DEI leaders in British International Schools with a comprehensive understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion within a global educational framework.
    • To empower DEI leaders to develop nuanced strategies that address the unique challenges faced by international school communities, fostering inclusive environments for all students and staff.
    • To provide DEI leaders with the knowledge and tools necessary to champion and sustain effective diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within their schools.



    Goals:

    • Enhance awareness and understanding: Increase DEI leaders' knowledge of intersectionality, systems of privilege, allyship, cultural differences, and global perspectives on diversity and inclusion.
    • Foster inclusive environments: Enable DEI leaders to analyse organisational culture, policies, practices, and norms in order to create inclusive spaces that support gender equity, disability inclusivity, religious acceptance, race equality, and pregnancy/maternity rights.
    • Empower change agents: Equip DEI leaders with ethical responses to discrimination and microaggressions through an examination of psychological impact and creating supportive environments where individuals feel empowered to speak out against injustice.
