Description

Global Learning: Poverty and Development Workshop

Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning helps schools make connections locally and globally, encouraging schools in the UK to develop partnerships with schools in other countries and embed global learning in the classroom.

This free workshop - delivered by the British Council and hosted by Sir Thomas Rich's School in Gloucester - considers poverty and development in the context of global learning.

Delegates will:

  • consider the ‘state of the planet’ in terms of human well-being
  • explore the contested meanings of the term ‘poverty’
  • explore the contested meanings of the term ‘development’ and relate this to ‘poverty’
  • consider a range of perspectives on priorities for the future
  • consider the implications and opportunities for teaching and learning.

Who should attend

This workshop is suitable for primary and secondary teachers currently teaching in Gloucestershire schools with an interest in global learning, who would like to find out more about the British Council's Connecting Classrooms programme. School support staff are also welcome to attend.
