Global Security and the International Rule of Law: Interdisciplinary Perspectives
Hosted by the KFG Berlin Potsdam Research Group ‘The International Rule of Law – Rise or Decline?’ (Online)
In this half-day webinar, we aim to discuss the notion of global security as understood in public international law, social sciences, political theory, and in practice. What do differing perspectives from these disciplines bring to discussions of current challenges to global security? How do differing conceptions of global security influence responses to these challenges? Which actors should be involved in promoting and maintaining global security, and through which means? What is the role of international law in addressing global challenges to security? What standards should we use to assess policies and actions purporting to advance global security? And crucially, what would global security within an international rule of law framework require to be effective?
This webinar will help us re-assess the intrinsic value that international law offers as a normative framework and structurally, both to understand current challenges and to address them.
