The Global Sustainability Jam is an annual event which takes place over a weekend at different locations all over the world. It brings people together to collaborate, play, create, innovate and test new ideas around a common theme to solve local sustainability issues; be they environmental, financial or social. Jams are free to attend and are open to anyone interested in sustainability who has an open enquiring mind - from designers to academics, students to grandparents, doctors to artists, and anyone else with a passion for making Shropshire and the world a great place to live, work or visit. Whether you are an experienced jammer or completely new to the field, you won’t just be talking about social design, you will be working with others on developing concrete ideas and designs for services or products which could become real.

Outline of Event
Sustainability Jam Shrewsbury will run from 6pm on Friday 4th to around 5pm on Sunday 6th November 2016. We'll be jamming at Rowley's House in the heart of Shrewsbury (see map below for directions).
Friday 4th November, 6pm – 9pm
Jammers come together for the global theme unveiling (OOooooo!) and idea generation around the theme begins. Groups form around themes.
Saturday 5th November, 9am – 5pm
After coffee teams identify and define the problem they would like to solve. Supported by Jam Mentors (Service Designers from iLab Shropshire), you will investigate the issue and begin to develop solutions. You’ll quickly begin to prototype ideas and test them - you can even get out and about in Shrewsbury and test them on the streets. Jams are all about doing stuff, not talking about doing stuff!
Sunday 6th of November, 9am – 5pm
Jam teams present their working prototype. This might be a role play of their service idea, physical products, a video of your idea in use in the real world, a dummy website, or anything else which shows your idea in action! The way you do this won't be imposed upon you, it will be decided by you and the team you are working with. The final piece is uploaded to the Global Sustainability Jam site and shared with the world!
Why should I come?
At the Jam you’ll learn more about a person centered design-based approach to problem solving, as well as picking up a load of new ideas, skills and work practices. Jams are a great place to meet likeminded people in a relaxed, but focused environment. Have you got an idea that could make a real difference in your community? It doesn't matter if you don't, but if you bring an idea to the Jam and can get others interested in it you'll be able to work it through with a team of likeminded people who bring a whole range of skills and perspectives you might never have considered before. It's worth remembering that ideas don't have to end with a technology based solution - that all depends on the type of idea, and the range of skills you have in your team. Your work and ideas will be reviewed by your peers, and presented to the world – who knows where that might take you? One thing is for sure you’ll have a great time!
In short you will:
Meet, collaborate and share ideas with new people
Learn more about a design-based approach to problems
Learn and practice service design methods
Pick up loads of new ideas and work practices
Prototype ideas for new goods and services which will end up in the Global Sustainability Jam catalogue
So if you’re interested in sustainability and have an open, enquiring mind we’d love to see you at Sustainability Jam Shrewsbury.
What should I bring?
Just bring yourself, your enthusiasum, your desire to get stuck in, a pen and a notepad - We'll provide everything else.
What does it cost?
The Jam is free but we are always looking for sponsors to make it an extra special event.
