About this event

Spirituality • Christianity

This meeting is part of the consultations which Bishop Patrick has instructed us to undertake "about the viability of having two Catholic parishes and churches in the town, and looking to reduce these, through an extinctive union, into one single parish with one single church for the entire town."

Frequently asked questions

What is this all about and why is it happening now?

Please read the letter that was given out at Holy Mass, taken to housebound parishioners, and published on our parish website -- https://www.glossopcatholics.org.uk/the-future-of-our-parishes/

How will the conversations in this meeting take place?

We will use the "Conversations in the Spirit" method, guided by our facilitator Ron Lynch. You can read about this method, part of the synodal process for consultations in the Catholic Church: https://www.schoolforsynodality.org.uk/our-resources/conversations-in-the-spirit-a-how-to-guide

Do I have to attend all the meetings?

No need, please choose the one that suits you best. We've set up three meetings so as many as people as possible can attend one of them.

What if can't get to any of the meetings?

A questionnaire will be published in September or October: keep your eye on the parish newsletter for information. You will be able to answer online or by post.

What does "extinctive union" mean?

It's a term in canon law for the process by which a town (or city, or rural area) which is currently split into two or more Catholic parishes is joined by the bishop into one parish.
