Glug Birmingham returns for the final edition of 'Midland Masters' presenting a handpicked programme of insightful industry talks by local design studios and creatives, curated by Inkygoodness.
For the third edition of Glug Birmingham 'Midland Masters' our focus turns to digital design and festival events, presenting an evening of talks by leading local creatives at Spotlight & Nextdoor, located 2 minutes from The Custard Factory in the creative quarter of Digbeth, just a short stroll from the Bullring and Birmingham New Street station.
Gavin Strange aka Jam Factory // Aardman Animations
Gavin Strange is a jack of all trades, master of flip all; Senior Designer for Bristol's Aardman Animations by day, and a creative berk going under the alias 'JamFactory' by night. Working in the field of graphic design but dabbling in illustration, toy design, photography and film making, Gav will talk your ears off about design if you give him half the chance.
A firm believer in not being able to make fun unless you're having fun, let Gavin bend your ear for an hour to convince you to stop talking about stuff, and just go and do the stuff, regardless of whether you have the skills to do so.
Casper Franken and Carin Standford // Shotopop
Shotopop is a devout team of visual zealots who pride themselves on conjuring the new, the unimagined and the fantastical. In their offices, furiously snipping silver scissors give birth to a thousand paper feathers, crazy caffeine dreams turn into flashing pixel rainbows, and the most ambitious flights of fancy become their proudest moments.
Their work explores a diverse range of design and illustration styles, including motion and interactive design, typography, infographics, digital and tactile illustration. As a studio they have produced commercial pieces for clients such as Converse, Google and Nike.
Luke Tonge // LIFE Agency
Senior Designer at LIFE Agency, Luke recently picked up Gold at the International Design Awards for his re-imagining and re-design of Monotype magazine 'The Recorder'.

Ian Francis // Flatpack Film Festival
Flatpack is a festival which takes over venues across Birmingham every March. It draws people from far and wide with a mixture of films, performances, contraptions and surprises, and has been described as “magnificently eclectic” (Time Out), “joyously inventive” (the Guardian) and “the UK’s most creatively curated film festival” (the Independent).
Ian has clocked up fifteen years putting on film events in Birmingham and beyond, and co-founded Flatpack with partner Pip McKnight in 2006. He also writes for publications including Sight and Sound and Little White Lies.

Glug - More Notworking™ than Networking
Glug is a series of events for the design and creative community. Our showcase event is held in London but there are now 8 other events around the world.
Based around a series of talks and informal networking, Glug has become one of the most exciting, credible and well attended creative events around.
Established in 2007, it’s an eclectic mix of people from all creative walks of life; from advertising and graphic design through to fashion and architecture.
Glug started as a handful of mates talking shop in an East London pub. Two years later and it’s an international and national event with over 8000 signed-up members on MeetUp.
Over this time we’ve had great talks, film preview, live art, installations and exhibitions from the likes of Airside, Anthony Burrill, I Love Dust, Jason Bruges Studio, usTwo™, Mainframe, Marc Kremers, Noma Bar, Wolff Olins and Why Not Associates.
Currently Glug events are popping up in: London, New York City, Birmingham, Beijing, Brighton, Edinburgh, Auckland & Nottingham.
So there it is, get yourselves down! New Gluggers are always welcome to come along and see what it’s all about, so bring a friend and get Notworking™
