By bringing together creatives & techies for an evening of inspiration and informal networking, Glug is based around a series of talks by practitioners & entrepreneurs from different creative disciplines. This October we explore the mysterious and fast paced world of festivals.
Our fantastic guest speakers;
Brian Baglow - That Games Guy Brian is a veteran of the video games industry, a writer, entrepreneur, lecturer, speaker, advocate, marketing guru and style icon. Apparently. Brian founded the Scottish Games Network back in 2005 to create a community and industry body for Scotland's rapidly growing interactive sector. Brian thinks interactive media is changing every aspect of the creative industries - from creation to consumption. So he started Hollow Earth Industries, the first agency spanning the gap between interactive companies and the wider creative world. He's a member of the BAFTA Scotland committee, a speaker, presenter and host of a whole range of events across Scotland and the UK. In 2012 he was voted the top tech influencer in both Edinburgh AND Dundee. He's not sure what happened to Glasgow. He can be found on social media (@flackboy) and often thinks he should get back to designing games at some point.
Nick Barley - Director, Edinburgh International Book Festival Nick worked in London as a publisher and editor of arts books and magazines throughout the 1990s. The magazines under his stewardship included Blueprint (for architects and designers) and he was responsible for the launch of Tate, the art magazine in 1992. During this period he also edited books including Breathing Cities and Lost and Found: Critical Voices in new British Design. Nick moved to Scotland to become editor of the cultural magazine The List in 2003, and he was winner of the PPA Editor of the Year Award in 2005. In 2006 he was appointed as director of The Lighthouse - Scotland's Centre for Architecture, Design and the City. Since October 2009 he has been director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, which takes place each August. Under his direction the Book Festival has launched a series of innovations including Unbound, a free mini-festival of literary performances, the Anobii First Book Award, the 2012 Edinburgh World Writers' Conference and the Word Alliance, a network of eight of the world's leading literature festivals.
Morvern Cunningham - Events & Festival Guru Morvern is the event organiser and festival promoter of LeithLate, an annual Leith-based multi-arts event now in its third year, which is responsible for related initiatives such as The Shutter Project and The Mural Project. Alongside LeithLate she runs regular film events in Glasgow and Edinburgh including global pop-up film festival Future Shorts and surreal film collective KinoKlub. She is also Festival Coordinator of Glasgow Short Film Festival. Follow Morvern @morvc
Faith Liddell - Director, Festivals Edinburgh Faith is an experienced director, producer and project manager who has worked in key strategic and creative roles across theatre, literature, music, film and visual arts for the last fifteen years specialising predominantly in the creation and development of festivals and festival-based programmes. In January 2007 she took up the role of Director of Festivals Edinburgh, a new organisation designed to take the lead on the joint strategic direction of all 12 of Edinburgh's major festivals and to sustain Edinburgh's pre-eminence as the world's leading festival destination. Her freelance work has included Project Management for the National Short Story Campaign and Prize and producing for the National Theatre of Scotland. Other roles have included Director of DCA, Scotland's leading centre for contemporary art and film, Project Manager for the Scottish Playwrights' Studio Development Project, Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival and Marketing Manager for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Glug is a regular after-work creative drinks and Notworking event for designers, creatives, clients and friends founded by Ian Hambleton & Nick Clement. It's an eclectic mix of people from all creative walks of life; from advertising and graphic design through to fashion and architecture. Glug London, Glug Nottingham, Glug Brighton & Glug Auckland.
