Glug Leeds - What I wish I'd known at 18!
Event Information
Description
28 SEPT 2017 | LEEDS
WHAT I WISH I'D KNOW AT 18!
We’ll be hearing top tips, advice and nostalgic and humorous trips down memory lane as members of the Glug community wrestle with their inner demons so you guys don’t have to.
We strongly encourage attendees to bring along a photo of themselves aged 18 with a top tip or piece of advice, which we’ll collate into a mega collage for posterity.
There will be beers in the Sheaf Street cafeteria before during and after plus bar food available from Grub and Grog to keep you fuelled for an inspiring insightful evening of talks!
SPEAKER LINE UP:
Lou Mycroft is an independent thinker, writer and public speaker on a mission to transform the public sector and the working practices which keep it tethered to old thinking. After a decade of drifting and dancing, her career kickstarted with the birth of her son and the need to knuckle down. This proved both tantalising and ultimately futile, but had significant wins in terms of choreographing spaces for hundreds of social purpose teachers to think well and be themselves - an approach explored in the book 'Further Education and the Twelve Dancing Princesses'. Lou maintained a proper public service job for nearly two decades before dancing off into freelance work. She now operates face-to-face and across social media, to provoke thinking and bring about lasting social change.

Ashton Wesley
Ashton comes to us from Western Canada and is on a mission to curate a practical guide to thriving in the digital age.
Completing a roller coaster (see: emotional) of a degree in mechanical engineering he got his taste for the tech & creative world in Toronto where he started his blog Modern Afflatus.
Since then he's moved to Leeds and is working as a technology consultant/software sorcerer in training and is an active member of the meetup community on the side.
With an unusual amount of university experience he's here to share his lessons learned and the advice he wish he knew at 18 so you can start doing what really matters sooner.

Her clients include Waitrose Food, Topshop, Chatsworth House and Weight Watchers and her work has been featured on design blogs such as Creative Boom, The Dieline and Design Taxi. Honesty is her trademark and her blog posts have had a great response and caused many a belly laugh… except for a guy called Bernard, but more on that later.

Eleanor Snare
A freelance marketing consultant and copywriter, and who helps creative businesses market themselves in sustainable ways. Alongside my business I teach Fashion Marketing at the University of Leeds where I get to see what happens when I give advice to 18 year olds. Since I was 18 I've done two degrees, worked with over 40 brands, helped 70+ students get through university, and learnt more than I could ever imagine. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can learn at Glug and what I can help you with.
