Event description

Description

East Didsbury - Cheadle Village - Micker Brook - Bramhall Park - Carr Wood - Bramhall (11km)

GRADE: EASY (3.5 hours)

Welcome to Freshwalks and our collaboration with GM Ringway, the long distance walking route for Greater Manchester which we are proud to support.

The particular charm of Stages 3 and 4 of the GM Ringway trail is the feeling they give of moving from leafy suburbs to open countryside. They do this by sharing, for much of their length, the route of the picturesque Ladybrook Valley Interest Trail, little known except to locals. Highlights of the 6.8 mile (11 km) Stage 3 include:

• Cheadle village with its pretty church and graveyard

• The tree-lined Micker Brook through Cheadle and Brookfield Park

• Our arrival in open pastures after passing under the historic "Seven Arches" Railway Viaduct

• Bramhall Park with its lakes and the Tudor Bramall Hall

• The gorgeous ancient woodland and tinkling stream of Carr Wood

Unlike the previous two stages of the GM Ringway, both the start and end of this walk can be accessed by train, making it easily accessible for walkers with dogs.

SCHEDULE

09:15 - 09:55 BREAKFAST

Feel free to join others in the group for breakfast or coffee at Carluccio’s, Manchester Piccadilly. We will then take the 10.07 train for the short journey to East Didsbury.

10:20 WALK STARTS FROM EAST DIDSBURY RAIL STATION

10:30 EAST DIDSBURY METROLINK

Along the way, Dr Andrew Read, creator of the GM Ringway, will share some interesting facts about the history and nature of the area.

14:00 (approx) WALK FINISHES (BRAMHALL) where some of the group will be able to head one of the village pubs for food and refreshments.

From the end of the walk it's a short walk to Bramhall rail station for the return train to Manchester or Stockport. Trains leave every hour just after half past the hour. Alternatively, there is a half-hourly bus (the 42B) direct from Bramhall village back to Parrs Wood for those who have come by tram or parked at East Didsbury.
