Go Green Workshop: Business Benefits through Strategic Sustainability

Wednesday 9th November, 12.30pm-2.30pm, The Future Economy Centre, Bristol

Join SEM Solutions and Sustain-Live Consulting for a Go Green workshop that will help you identify how your green actions can embed sustainability throughout your business.

Embedding sustainability into your business requires commitment at a decision-making level and other areas of the business not traditionally involved in sustainability.

This workshop will explore some of the tools available to assist you in doing this such as the revised ISO 14001:2015 standard, The Natural Step Framework and the Go Green Action Plan. In addition to this we will have the chance to explore any existing barriers that you are experiencing. Come along to find out how to maximise the benefits of a sustainable approach to business.

Learning Outcomes:

● How to check if your sustainability strategy is aligned with your business strategy?
● How you can lead your own sustainability strategy review with your team?
● Can an environmental management system (EMS) and Go Green Action Plan support your strategic vision?
● If you already have an EMS is it fully embedded and are the benefits being received. Are you now prepared for the 2015 changes?
● Can The Natural Step (TNS) Framework assist you?
● Review and adapt your Go Green Action Plan

Business Benefits: Reduce Costs, Create New Partnerships, Increase Customer Loyalty, and Resilience in Supply Chain.

Tania Palk - Director, Sustainability and Environmental Management Solutions Ltd

Whether you are considering a fully accredited environmental management system (EMS) or working to the framework of ISO 14001, it can be a useful tool to help you on your Go Green journey. Working at King’s College Hospital NHS Trust as their Environmental Manager opened my eyes to the benefits that an EMS such as ISO 14001 can bring to an organisation.  It provided a structured framework with clear requirements in an environment with many competing priorities such as financial management, patient care and a busy working environment.

I also qualified as a Lead Auditor for ISO 14001 whilst at ISS UK as their Carbon and Environment Manager to enhance the effectiveness of the environmental audits that contributed to the Group EMS.  Sustainability and Environmental Management (SEM) Solutions has been set up with a view to supporting organisations in their environmental management journey.

Traci Lewis, founder and director of Sustain-Live.

At Sustain-Live Consulting we develop and deliver sustainability programmes, green projects and events for small to medium businesses, organisations and social enterprises.

Over the past twenty years I have delivered a range of successful sustainable development programmes, across south west England, with a diverse range of partners, including; Duchy College, Organic South West, Plymouth City Council and Soil Association.

These programmes have been developed from the initial concept, through to the strategy, management, communication, marketing and final project delivery. These include; organic certification systems; south west food production and market development programme; national social enterprise network; a city-wide Plymouth food partnership, which helped inspire and establish the national Sustainable Food Cities network.

I am now also an advisor for The Natural Step (TNS) - international NGO - dedicated to education, advisory work, system change initiatives, innovation and research in sustainable development since 1989. I have always been inspired by their approach which provides a sound sustainability framework from which to develop a strategy or CSR programme. With a group of other women, I am also in process of setting up a social enterprise ‘Catalyse Change’ to use these tools to inspire and skill young women and girls.
