Socar Turkey: Sustainability Strategy

In this exclusive interview, Sultan Garayev, Corporate Strategy and Development Group Director at SOCAR Türkiye, shares his views on the key factors shaping the petrochemical industry today — from global market dynamics to decarbonisation pathways.

This interview sets the stage for the upcoming Go Net Zero Energy – Caspian & Central Asia Many of the ideas touched upon — including industrial decarbonisation, hydrogen development, and sustainable investment — will be central to the discussions at this new regional gathering.

Organised by London-based Globuc and building on the success of last year’s Hydrogen in Central Asia and Caspian Summit, this high-profile business summit is set to become the key networking event for advancing the energy transition in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and beyond. Against the backdrop of post-COP29 momentum and mounting global pressure for climate action, the summit will foster actionable dialogue and cross-border cooperation across both the public and private sectors.

“The Globuc Hydrogen Conference was well-organised, featuring engaging and informative speakers. It was a great opportunity to learn from industry experts and gain valuable insights,” said Emma Mcfarlane, Director of Business Development. “Last year’s hydrogen-focused discussions proved that the region is not just interested, but ready to act. This new summit expands the conversation — integrating hydrogen, renewables, digitalisation, and finance — into a comprehensive platform for energy transition leaders,” added Marco Castagnini, Business Development Director at Green Spark.

Networking is at the heart of the summit. A standout feature will be the Evening Reception on 3 December, offering an informal yet powerful space to forge regional connections and business relationships.

With over 47% of attendees expected to be C-level decision-makers, the Go Net Zero Energy – Caspian and Central Asia summit is a not-to-be-missed event for any organisation committed to leading the energy transition in one of the world’s most strategically vital regions.

The summit boasts an impressive lineup of speakers and contributors. Industry heavyweights, including Farhad Mammadov, General Manager, Green Energy Corridor Power Company, Almas Aidarov, General Director, Hyrasia One, SVEVIND Energy Group , Elvira Konakhbaeva, Managing Director for Strategy and Sustainable Development, KEGOC will share strategic insights and practical experiences.

They will be joined by a diverse roster of energy experts and policy advisors, including representatives from the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy, Manuel Andresh, Head of the Hydrogen Diplomacy Office in Astana, Azamat Kozhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board, Kazakh Invest and John Roberts, a leading voice on energy security. Panels and debates will explore not only opportunities but also the risks and infrastructure gaps that challenge progress across the region.
