Learn how to bring the strange into your stories with Northern Soul’s Northern Writer of the Year, Gaynor Jones, who has a keen eye for the weird and wonderful in contemporary fiction. You’ll discuss curious stories, workshop fresh ideas and create new work in a friendly, supportive and slightly strange environment. All levels of writing experience welcome.

About the writer

Gaynor Jones is a northern writer, currently based in Oldham. She is the recipient of a Northern Writer’s Award and has won or been placed in competitions including the Bridport Prize, Bath Flash Fiction and the Mairtín Crawford Award. Her novella-in-flash Among These Animals was published in March 2021 and she has recently signed with literary agent Laura Williams at Greene & Heaton. She has been a first reader for writing competitions including the Cambridge Short Story Prize and the Brighton Prize and has been a guest editor for Ellipsis Zine. Prior to writing, she spent years working with young people in various settings.

Details

The workshop will take place via Zoom and last approx 2 hours. It will be a participatory workshop with a mix of writing exercises and discussion.
