God's planet : our responsibilities
Event Information
About this event
The global climate crisis will affect each and every one of our communities. What responsibilities does this place on our churches? What can we do as Christians, churches and circuits? What do we have to contribute as Christians to a national conversation in the run up to COP26?
We would love to be joined by someone from every church in the district, because there will be ways that we can all make a difference
- Keynote speaker Nick Jowett: “Climate Emergency: theological understanding for urgent action”.
Rev Canon Nick Jowett served as a priest in the Diocese of Sheffield from 1975 to 2012, latterly as vicar/minister in St Andrew’s Psalter Lane LEP. He’s been involved in Eco Congregation and Eco Church and is a member of the Sheffield Diocese’s Environment Working Group.
- TED talks and panel discussion from: Nick Waterfield (The God Plot), Gregg Hewitt (Plastic Free Chesterfield), Mary Clear (Incredible Edible Tormoden), Clare Loughridge and Caroline Cripps (Eco Church)
- Closing reflection from Ali Dorey
Because we are coming together as our district representative synod, we will also hear reflections from those who attended the national Methodist Conference on our behalf, latest news on For Such A Time As This, and hold our common life as a district.
A separate communication will be sent to members of synod, but we need members and non-members alike to register via Eventbrite.
Synod will be accessible via Zoom and at Greenhill Methodist Church in Sheffield. A creche will be available to those who request it on their booking form.
