About this event
Welcome to the Golden Light Community Dance Class!
Come join us at Carrow House for a fun, easy and uplifting new community dance class that will inspire you to move and groove together. Whether you're a beginner, curious about movement or a seasoned dancer, this class is open to everyone. As a professional contemporary dance instructor I will guide you through easy-to-follow movements that get us all moving across the floor together (think folk dance) as we move towards more rhythmic and dynamic moves (think freeflow clubbing), ensuring you have a great time while learning new moves and connecting with yourself and others. There is also space to rest and observe from the sidelines, if needed.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to dance with others in a safe and inclusive space, enjoying the great vibes of dancing in the golden light of the change of season in the beautiful and ornate Orangery, a grade II listed building, at the new Carrow House in Norwich. The class is led by Carrow House member and American-British dance specialist and teacher Sara Wookey. We uphold a friendly, non-competitive and inclusive dance environment where everyone can find their own pace and experience the joy of dancing alone and with a group.
Hello and welcome!
I am a professional dancer and choreographer. I studied ballet, jazz and contemporary in the United States and earned my Master of Fine Arts in Dance in 2010 at the University of California, Los Angeles. I have performed at Barbican, Raven Row gallery, Neue Nationalgalerie (Berlin) and at the New Museum (NYC). I am currently writing a book on dance in the museum and conduct research into how dance, as a relational practice, encourages positive ways to be together, share space and co-create place.
I have taught at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance (London), Fresh (Ely) and at Copperdot studio (Norwich). With over two decades of dance teaching under my belt I continue to want to serve new communities with dance and I am especially drawn to serving an inter-generational community of women and those who identify as female. All are welcome and thanks for being here.
