About the workshop

Taken from a Dresden work motif popular on 18th century costume accessories you will learn the basics of metal thread embroidery including couching and chip work.
The price of the session includes all materials which will be supplied as a kit.
Lunch and refreshments are not included in the price, however there is an on-site tea room.

About Pippa Foulds

Pippa is a traditionally trained technical hand embroiderer. She graduated from the Royal School of Needlework Future Tutor programme with Distinction in 2017. She also won the RSN’s prestigious Elizabeth Elvin Goldwork prize.

She now teaches for the RSN Certificate & Diploma course in Durham and various Day Classes in Durham, Glasgow and at Hampton Court Palace She has taught on the RSN Degree programme and for Embroiderers Guild Regional Summer Schools and for their individual branches and she also teaches private classes.

Pippa worked one of the pictorial panels on 'The Magna Carta, An Embroidery' for artist Cornelia Parker and on 'The Hardhome Embroidery' for HBOs Game of Thrones. She was lead embroiderer for the RSN at Burberry's Makers House in conjunction with The New Craftsmen and volunteers with Durham Cathedral Broderers. She has stitched a number of private commissions.

About the venue

Gawthorpe Hall is a Grade 1 listed Elizabethan country house. It can be chilly in the Hall, so please wear warm clothing. Due to the historic nature of the building there is no wheelchair access. There are some external and internal stairs. The course is held in the Library which is reached via a stair case. There are additional stairs to access the rest of the building, including the textile galleries and exhibition room.

There is free parking for visitors, approximately 150 yards from the Hall, with mobilty access closer to the Hall.

There is a National Trust tea room (open from 11am) and picnic area.
