Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

It is shortly after dawn at RAF Fylingdales and a Cuckoo is having a transmitter strapped to his back. A few weeks later her will have flown thousands of miles across Europe and over the Sahara Desert to equatorial Africa. For millenia, the Cuckoo's call has inspired songs, stories and poems. Does he bring the spring? Tell our fortunes? Was he the shapeshifter that became a hawk? He certainly fools the Reed Warblers who feed him as a challenging baby. Now the voice of the Cuckoo is fading - where has it gone.

Father and son duo, Malcolm Green (storyteller) and Joshua Green (musician) are collaborating to tell the Cuckoo's tale... and with a wry trickster smile will take you on a vital journey, flying wing to wing with the songs and stories of this extraordinary creature.

Hosted within the stunning surroundings of the BTO's headquarters in Thetford, Norfolk, this evening performance tells the story of the Cuckoo. It draws upon the work being done by BTO researchers and volunteers to halt the decline in Cuckoo populations by revealing new information on this summer visitor's annual migration.

Come and join us and learn about the Cuckoo in science and myth. Find out about the work that BTO has been doing tracking Cuckoos and meet some of those involved in BTO work.

Doors open at 7pm and the performance starts at 7.45pm.
